About Ponz art.

Hello! I'm Shinji from Japan.
I spent 10 years in New Zealand, and eventually made my way to Australia.
The first place I arrived was Darwin. While relaxing at my accommodation, I noticed a Green Tree Frog sitting confidently on a chair out on the terrace. I was amazed by how big it was, and its calm, unbothered attitude completely stole my heart. Right then, I thought, “I want to make this little guy out of clay!” — and that moment was the beginning of Ponz art.
Darwin was full of fascinating creatures, especially reptiles. Crocodiles, frill-necked lizards, and many more — they constantly inspired me to create.
Later, I moved to Queensland, home to some of Australia’s most iconic animals: koalas, platypuses, and even the impressively muscular kangaroos I don’t see in Darwin. They sparked my creativity even more.
I feel incredibly lucky to have met so many unique, cool, and adorable animals in Australia and New Zealand — animals you would never find in Japan — and even luckier that I can turn them into art that people enjoy and choose to buy.
If my creations can give back, even in a small way, to the people who have protected this beautiful nature, it would make me truly happy.
